Go to work naked in order to get tax relief?
Should I go to work naked in order to get tax relief? Well, in a well known case, a female barrister claimed tax relief for the the cost of black clothing for the courts.
HMRC argued that while her motive to wear such clothes were for business purposes, it had duality of purpose i.e. the clothes provided warmth and decency!!
HMRC won the case and the expenditure was disallowed for tax purposes.
However, all is not lost as HMRC does recognise certain clothing expenditure which may attract tax relief such as cleaning, repairing or replacing specialist clothing for uniforms or safety boots. See HMRC website
So it is important that you explore what tax relief maybe available to you
