National Insurance

There have been the following updates concerning National Insurance. Following the March 2022 Budget, the Chancellor has increased the threshold at which National Insurance contributions are paid.
The level at which employees will start paying National insurance contributions will be raised to £12,570 which is good news
However, the change will not take effect until July 2022 to give payroll software providers sufficient time to update their systems
Therefore the first 13 weeks of the year will use the existing weekly and monthly thresholds for 2022/23, with the increase coming in July 2022
So if you are paying the minimum salary as a director of your company then ensure you are taking full advantage of the thresholds increasing in April 2022 and then in July 2022
Employers will benefit too, as the Employment Allowance that offsets Secondary Class 1 NI will increase from £4,000 to £5,000. This will come into effect from April 2022.
